FIELD NOTES FROM A
LATE BLOOMER

How do I start this ?

Well, I recently did a THING.
A “milestone” thing that many of you have done/ accomplished by your 24th birthday, but for those of us who were committed to rebelling… it took a lot looooooooonger.

It was the most memorable and beautiful celebration in all my life-  full of family and friends, large amounts of love and……………………          John Waters.

Although I love John Waters movies, I’m not 100% sure how he came to be the entire theme of the party. My slogan for the weekend was “Always Late, But Never Boring” and it seemed to fit perfectly with this over the top, CAMP expression of being fabulously myself AND in society’s face. How could I not model my evening (and slogan) after a queer man who believed having bad taste was exceptional?!

Wasn’t it bad taste to have been a college drop out for decades, chaser of dead-end dreams, haver of self-sabotaging habits, keeper of low paying jobs, the never saved money and spent everything on traveling the world while being clinically depressed?

Yes!  Was it a hell of a lot more entertaining?
J.W. would say YESSSS!

If I could go back and do it all differently, would I? YES.

But this is me- a late bloomer. The latest bloom you’ve ever seen babe! I might be 80 before I hit my next milestone, but John Waters and I couldn’t give a shit to be on time or “smart” about it all.

So here I am, LATE BUT NEVER BORING.

Nice to meet you! Xx
